In 1985, CEO Masami Sakaguchi established Seiha English Academy(セイハ英語学院 Seiha eigo gakuin). It is a private eikaiwa English conversation school run by Seiha Network Co., Ltd. (セイハネットワーク株式会社 Seiha Nettowāku kabushiki gaisha). It started primarily in western Japan for children from three months to 14 years old. Native-English speaking teachers co-teach in tandem with native-Japanese teachers. Seiha's curriculum includes Total Physical Response-style teaching.
Seiha has schools all over Japan from Hokkaido to Okinawa. As of January 2019, Seiha has 900 locations all around Japan and approximately 2,500 teachers. In the beginning of 2019, students enrolled in Seiha's English Network has reached the 70,000 student mark. This strengthens Seiha’s status of being the largest children's English School in Japan.
For its first offshore satellite, Seiha English Academy reached towards the Philippines. The Philippines is globally recognized not just as one of Asia’s top English-speaking countries, but as one of the largest English-speaking nations in the world. English has always been one of the country’s official languages and is spoken by more than 14 million Filipinos. Filipinos being non-native English speakers but having successfully mastered the intricacies of English, on top of being capable of speaking at least 2 dialects (one’s regional dialect and Tagalog), are strategically effective teachers of English as a Second Language (ESL)
In December 2015, Seiha English Network Philippines, Incorporated was born. Also known as UPTALK Seiha, it offers online classes for students in Japan. Highly-credentialed, English-fluent Filipino teachers teach English classes online, with the supervision of Japanese and Filipino managers. The Seiha Method of teaching, developed by Seiha English Academy, is strictly applied also in the Philippine branch. UPTALK Seiha is currently situated in FLB Corporate Center, Archbishop Reyes Avenue, Cebu City, Philippines.
With the influx of foreign tourists wanting to learn English while enjoying the beautiful beaches of Cebu, Seiha English Academy saw an opportunity to expand a second branch, and offer an offline teaching model. Thus, in March 18, 2019, Seiha Global Academy Incorporated was officially opened. By end March, it offered its first classes, catering to Japanese adults and children for face-to-face lessons and excursions in Cebu.
True to its company values of Expansion and Advancement, SEIHA sets its gaze at extending its reach to other countries in the future.
